Common material used for wood related DIY beginner's project would be plywood, as it is available in many different construction and some comes in lightweight form.

Plywood comes with different strength types and colour hue that's suitable for variety of DIY projects. Lightweight plywood has a pale light yellowish white colour that would be quite suitable for building art décor storage or custom cabinet boxes.

Standard plywood is made up of layered construction with thin plies of wood, glued together under high pressure and heat. Plywood generally comes in different grading of N, A, B, C and D.

With the D & C grades mainly used for structural concealing whilst N, B and A are considered good quality that’s strong, durable and has fine finishing, suitable for front end display (Schmidt 2012).

Medium Density Fiberboard or “MDF” are made up of tiny wood fibers glued and pressed together. It has a pale flat colour and takes paint better than standard plywood however unlike standard plywood, MDF is prone to damage when in contact with water.
