Yashica was formally acquired in 1983 by Kyocera and in year 2005, stopped all production on cameras (Peres 2007). The history and design behind it, certainly added a charming twist to a vintage twin lens camera.

In the 1950s to early 1960s, the Yashica Mat-124G were popular among tourists and photography enthusiasts as it was a category between the 35mm lower end fixed lens cameras and the big bodied medium format professional cameras (Tomlinson 2015).

The Yashica Mat-124G was first produced in the year around 1953, it was waist level viewfinder, twin lens reflex camera on a 6 x 6 cm film.

It was considered a portable camera used by some photojournalists who required more detailed in their images, compared to 35mm cameras.

It had fixed non interchangeable twin lenses. The upper viewing lens placed directly in front of a 45 degree mirror to reflect the image to the viewfinder, while the lower lens does the job of image transmission to the film (Warren 2006).
